FIRST EVER WOMEN’S UFC CLASH, UFC 157: ROUSEY VS. CARMOUCHE, AIRS LIVE ON BALLS

The first women's Mixed Martial Arts bout in UFC history will headline UFC 157 with undefeated UFC bantamweight champion Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey taking on United States Marine Corps veteran Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche. UFC 157 will be broadcast from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on Balls Channel on February 24 (Sunday) at 11:30 a.m.

Rousey (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is known for her fight-ending armbars in the first round and has been considered unstoppable inside the cage thanks to her Olympic-level judo. Carmouche (7-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC), on the other hand, has built a reputation for her power and grit and has won most of her fights via knockout or submission.

“Ronda is the real deal,” UFC President Dana White said. “She’s nasty. She’s mean. She’s like Chuck Liddell. She goes out there and tries to finish her opponents. And Carmouche is tough as nails, too. She was a Marine and she’s got great ground-and-pound. I look forward to having the women join the UFC.”

Also featured on the card is the light heavyweight bout between former world champions Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson, California favorite Urijah Faber facing off with Ivan Menjivar, and the UFC return of Robbie Lawler as he faces off with Josh Koscheck.

Watch the first ever women’s fight to be held in the UFC Octagon, UFC 157: Rousey vs. Carmouche on Balls Channel (SkyCable ch. 34 and Destiny Cable ch. 36) on February 24 (Sunday) at 11:30 a.m. Always tune in to Balls and be updated with the biggest happenings in the world of sports. I think it's obvious that I'm a huge Wanderlei fan. He has been one of my MMA heroes since Pride days. When I met him at Wand Fight Team in Vegas, he was happy to hear that I used to watch his bouts before my fights here in the Philippines. I wasn't surprised to hear from him that there are a lot of people who were also inspired to fight professionally after watching his bouts.

With Wanderlei at Wand Fight Team a month before he defeated Cung Le

Win or lose, he's still an MMA hero to many.

Pinoy Pride 14: Resorts World Manila

This will be one of the biggest fights in the country this year! From the regional bouts that they do, ALA Boxing Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports bring Pinoy Pride 14 to Manila.

Headlining Pinoy Pride 14 is Donnie Nietes vs. Felipe Salguero. The Mexican Felipe Salguero will be a tough opponent for Nietes. He is WBO rated #7 Jr. Flyweight, IBF World rated #7 Jr. Flyweight, Former WBF World Light Flyweight Champion, former WBC Youth World Light Flyweight Champion, won KO5 recently over world rated Carlos Melo, has a high knockout percentage of 57.89%.

This event will also feature the "real" Genaro Garcia. Garcia who was supposed to fight Boom Boom Gonzales last Pinoy Pride 12, however the Mexican promoter sent a different boxer with the same name.

Block off your calendars:

I had the privilege of talking to Donnie and learned that he's more than just a boxer. He has a very inspirational story behind his success. Being one of the longest reigning Filipino champions holding 2 belts, I feel that Donnie is under-promoted and deserves to be in the same ranks in the hearts of the Filipinos as Pacquiao, Donaire, and Villoria.

Image from Philboxing.com

In our brief talk, I didn't know that Donnie...
-        WAS MENTORED AND TRAINED BY HIS UNCLE,— Dan Nietes, who was also a World Champion
-         WAS A JANITOR-- of Mr. Aldeguier and was the only one who had the guts to go in the snake pit to feed and clean the snakes
-         HAD BIG DREAMS—and believed he could do better than other boxers, he eventually approached ALA and asked if he could try his hand on boxing
-         IS A PINOY CHAMPION WITH 2 BELTS-- With hard work and determination, he has become ONE out of the FIVE Filipino world champions (Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire, Donnie Nietes, Brian Villoria, Sonny Boy Jaro)
-         IS ONE OF THE LONGEST REIGNING CHAMPIONS2nd to Gabriel “Flash” Elorde; Alongside Luisito Espinosa, Donnie Nietes, Manny Pacquiao because he was determined to follow his dreams
-         IS THE BEST PINOY BOXER NEXT TO PACQUIAO—according to Freddie Roach
-         IS A NEW FATHER-- and this gives more meaning and motivation for him to train and fight harder.
-         IS NOW A HOMEOWNER AND DRIVES A SPORTS CAR-- After years of dedication to boxing, Donnie is now a proud home owner. He built a house in Cebu on a lot given to him as a gift by Mr. Antonio L. Aldeguer. The house built by the hands of both his Father, a photographer by profession and his Uncle
-         IS A BUSINESSMAN—Donnie has put up an agrivet business and has a small piggery which he plans to expand on that after his career in boxing
-         IS AN ADVENTURER—Donnie has a passion for the outdoors and is into biking. He is a member of Bike Talk Friendship Club (BTFC) that does regular day and night rides.

Wishing the ALA Boxers the best of luck in fighting for the Filipino Pride!

Chael Sonnen Apologizes to Anderson Silva

"Anderson, over the last several months, I've disparaged your name in an attempt to garner respect and attention for my own. That was wrong and I apologize. My actions were unsportsmanlike, they were uncalled for. Though they weren't mean-spirited, I do regret them. As you know, I've recently become the number one contender, which is a position that respectfully and immediately I am resigning from. I wish no further confrontation with you in the Octagon or through the media. In short, I surrender.

Signed,
Chael P. Sonnen ..."

Check this out as Wanderlei Silva gets on Chael's face in defense of Brazil and the Nogueira brothers. Chael surprisingly yielded and kept silent.

3:52 - 5:12

Here's another interesting video of Chael in an interview with Michael Landsberg at Off The Record which airs on TSN (Canada). Watch as Chael goes on a tirade and walks out of the show. Apparently, he went back to the show at a different date and finished the interview.

This is so far the BEST and the NASTIEST armbar I've ever seen!

"I had X-Rays last night," Tate told MMAFighting.com via text message. "No bones are broken, which I already knew. Other than that, I have to get an MRI to find out anything further."

This is an unusual incident in the MMA industry. I hope it doesn't slow down the acceptance of MMA as a sport to mainstream.

'THE FILIPINO-WRECKING MACHINE' VISITS ABS-CBN & BALLS CHANNEL, HOME OF THE UFC

Photo from Balls Channel

 Photo from @team_munoz

Filipino-American and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight star Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Muñoz arrived in Manila last weekend to visit the Philippines for the first time. ABS-CBN and Balls Channel, home of the UFC, hosted a breakfast gathering for the UFC middleweight standout on Monday morning which was also attended by sportswriters and TV reporters.

Muñoz wholeheartedly thanked his fellow Filipinos for supporting his mixed martial arts career and the UFC. He also noted the network's efforts in bringing the UFC and the sport of mixed martial arts closer to Filipino hearts.

Included in Muñoz's itinerary is a visit to his parents' respective hometowns, which he has never done due to his busy schedule brought by his emerging career in the UFC.

“I just love my culture man. I'm excited to finally come home to my roots,” he said.

It can be recalled that he incurred an unfortunate elbow injury recently that forced him to pull out of a main event fight against Chael Sonnen for the top middleweight contender spot. While recovering from the subsequent surgery to his elbow, Muñoz now has the chance to explore his Filipino roots. Mark's mother grew up in Sta.Ana, Manila while his father, a serviceman in the US Navy, hails from Pasay City.

Munoz's UFC comeback is tentatively set in July. When he returns to the United States on Wednesday, he'll resume therapy on his surgically repaired elbow.
